Job Summary

This Licensed Practical Nurse position is an exciting opportunity to join the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration team. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares and administers prescribed medications, observing for changes in patient condition and reporting any deviations to the MD/PA/NP/RN.
  • Accurately documents prescribed medications/treatments according to established policies and procedures.
  • Documents patient's responses to medications/treatments received.
  • Performs patient blood collection, when necessary, utilizing proper selection and use of equipment/supplies.
  • Follows all policies and procedures regarding appropriate specimen collection, laboratory results, critical values/parameters, and follow-up protocols in collaboration with providers.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Completes unresolved clinical reminders on patients who present to their area for check-in.
  • Consistently communicates with patients/families/co-workers and the general public in a courteous, tactful, and helpful manner.
Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, 8:30am-5:00pm, or 9:00am-5:30pm.

Pay and Benefits

Competitive salary and regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid Federal holidays per year.

Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
  • Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
Grade Determinations
  • GS-03: None beyond the basic requirements.
  • GS-04: Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN, or graduation from an approved school and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility.
  • GS-05: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) and knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be clearly demonstrated in your resume.
  • GS-06: One year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent, fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN/LVN and knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be clearly demonstrated in your resume.
