Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Code Blue Shelter Coordinator to join our team in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the guests of the Warming Center, ensuring their essential needs are met, and maintaining a safe environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Orientate and conduct intakes for shelter guests, collecting information and assessing their needs and strengths.
  • Provide general information about shelter operations, rules, and regulations, and assign beds to guests.
  • Monitor guest compliance with shelter rules and requirements, intervening in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Ensure health and safety requirements are met in sleeping areas.
  • Perform housekeeping and maintain the upkeep of the shelter and common areas.
  • Coordinate food distribution, including breakfast and dinner.
  • Provide transportation for guests, if necessary.
  • Perform bed checks and document guest presence.
  • Monitor confidential participant files, case notes, records, and reports, as requested.
  • Document incidents and submit reports for appropriate signatures.
  • Meet with previous shift staff to obtain updates on guest or other related issues.
  • Participate in ongoing training and attend staff meetings, as required.
Requirements
  • BA/BS in a human service field, or HS Diploma with 5 years of related work experience and strong communication skills.
  • Two years of related work experience with the homeless population, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License, required for transportation duties.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, with sensitivity toward the homeless population and strong communication skills.
  • Responsible, organized, non-judgmental, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
