Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant I Ambulatory to join our team at Mount Sinai Health System. As a Medical Assistant I Ambulatory, you will provide clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, and perform patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist providers during patient visits by obtaining vital signs and documenting results in the electronic medical record.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for prescriptions and durable medical equipment.
  • Draft prescription requests and send to providers for review and completion.
  • Perform phlebotomy services, including collecting and processing blood, urine, and stool specimens.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (POCT) and document results in the electronic medical record.
  • Perform daily quality control for POCT equipment.
  • Order clinical supplies as needed.
  • Maintain and stock exam and consult rooms with clinical supplies and clerical forms.
  • Assist providers with procedures by preparing supplies and equipment.
  • Perform EKGs as ordered by providers.
  • Perform pre-visit planning for diabetic and CHF patients.
  • Monitor and maintain refrigerator temperature logs and biomed expirations for medical equipment.
  • Participate in daily huddles with providers and other clinical team members to review patient care management.
  • Perform age-specific screenings for activities of daily living, falls, alcohol, tobacco, and depression.
  • Enter data into the electronic medical record related to medication adherence and diabetes control.
  • Assist providers with distributing educational materials to patients.
  • Assist with population health management by verifying patient screenings.
  • Retrieve information regarding hospital admission and emergency room visits from outside facilities.
  • Assist providers with follow-up related to patients on Coumadin therapy.
  • Assist at the front desk as needed, including answering telephones, registering patients, and scheduling appointments.
Qualifications
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certificate medical assistant program from an approved school; certification preferred.
  • Medical assistant certificate.
  • RMA/CMA required.
