Fleet Technician Job Description

About the Role: We are seeking a skilled Fleet Technician to join our team at TransForce. As a Fleet Technician, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on our fleet of vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements.
  • Diagnose and repair complex issues with vehicle systems, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Use computer interfaces and generic code scanners to troubleshoot vehicle systems and obtain trouble codes.
  • Service engines, transmissions, differentials, fuel systems, braking systems, climate control systems, and hydraulic systems by changing fluids and filters, and flushing systems in accordance with manufacturers specifications.
  • Use precision instruments to determine working clearances on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Place orders for required parts, materials, and supplies, as required.
  • Input information into computer, database, or related software to maintain records such as repair, maintenance, equipment, and customer service history.
  • Maintain tools, supplies, and workstations in a clean, safe, and presentable manner.
  • Assist staff with physical inventory of equipment, parts, supplies, and tools, as required.
  • Assist staff in major repairs of vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to ensure quality of repairs and service.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate.
  • Successful completion of an approved vocational school or technical training program.
  • Must possess EPA-approved Section 609 Certification.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with endorsement(s) may be required within the probationary period.
  • Certification in Welding Fabrication may be required.

Working Conditions:

The Fleet Technician will work in a clean, secure, climate-controlled environment utilizing Lean principles for efficiency. The County provides all the tools necessary to diagnose and perform jobs well. Fleet Technicians are reimbursed for all safety toe footwear and safety prescription eyewear. They receive reimbursement for CDL, ASE, and EVT certifications to include initial and renewals. Fleet Technicians are paid hourly, with annual performance evaluations and the opportunity for pay increases. They receive ongoing hands-on training, updates, and support in a professional environment to develop their technical and diagnostic skills. Opportunities for advancement are available.
