Academic Advisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Academic Advisor to join our team at Virginia Tech.
About the RoleAs an Academic Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of students in the College of Science. Your primary responsibilities will include advising students on course selection and registration, creating plans of study, monitoring progress towards graduation, and performing graduation clearances. You will also be responsible for communicating with students, faculty, and staff to ensure that students receive the best possible support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one-on-one advising to students to help them achieve their academic goals
- Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date student records
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure seamless support
- Collaborate with other departments to provide cross-training and professional development opportunities
- A Master's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in student development, counseling, or education, or a Bachelor's Degree with equivalent training and/or experience in advising
- Excellent communication, organizational, time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and set work priorities
- Knowledge of MS Office applications and Google equivalents
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with FERPA, university, and department guidelines
- Previous employment experience in academic units, including areas of academic student services, advising, recruiting, and curriculum processes
The salary range for this position is $51,000 - $57,000 commensurate with experience.
