About the Job
We are seeking a skilled Nurse Educator and Infection Prevention Specialist to join our team at Bethesda Health. This role offers an opportunity to combine your passion for healthcare education with expertise in infection prevention.
About the Position
- This position requires a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, with a BSN or related baccalaureate preparation in education preferred.
- Candidates should have current RN licensure in Missouri and Illinois, along with CPR/AED certification required or willingness to obtain within six months of employment.
- A minimum of five years of recent clinical nursing experience is necessary, with educational and supervisory/management experience preferred.
- Previous experience in long-term care is also essential.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing a Corporate-approved orientation program for all employees, emphasizing regulatory issues surrounding long-term care (LTC) and Bethesda values and mission.
- Conducting General Orientation using Corporate guidelines, incorporating relevant OSHA and Federal and State regulations into the program.
- Incorporating staff and resident safety, including emergency preparedness, fire safety, security, injury prevention, and teaching programs for those staff dealing directly and indirectly with Alzheimer residents.
- Monitoring orientation activities throughout orientation and providing input into evaluation of the orientee.
- Assisting with mentor programs and promoting a culture of staff development by being open and encouraging about the work environment.
- Developing lesson plans and conducting in-service programs, including mandatory in-services and other programs identified by needs assessment of the staff, results of State surveys, introduction of new products, services, and technology.
- Instructing staff on basic computer skills as related to their job duties and properly instructing them how to access and use online education programs as part of the overall in-service education program.
- Working closely with the Director of Nursing (DON), particularly in the promotion of teamwork and quality care issues.
- Providing input into the appraisal process of staff, particularly during orientation.
- Acting as a resource person for nurse assistants and monitoring their progress.
- Developing and implementing an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infections in order to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment.
- Establishing facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases of residents, staff, and visitors.
- Overseeing the facility's antibiotic stewardship program, resident care activities that increase risk of infection, and leading the facility's Infection and Prevention Control Committee.
- Implementing an annual infection control risk assessment process and participating in the facility's annual assessment review process.
- Reviewing and/or revising the facility's infection prevention and control program, its standards, policies, and procedures annually and as needed for changes to the facility assessment to ensure they are effective and in accordance with current standards of practice for preventing and controlling infections.
- Providing education to staff, residents, and families (where appropriate).
- Ensuring public health is notified of reportable diseases and collaborating with other departments in fulfilling requirements related to occupational health and safety.
- Maintaining documentation of infection prevention and control program activities and informing the DON of individual needs for Staff Development functions as it relates to budgeting.
- Assisting the DON in the assessment of needs for resident care equipment during budget preparation.
- Being aware of and promoting the compliance program throughout the facility.
- Participating in continuous quality improvement (QAPI) activities established by the organization by looking at all resident care processes with an intent to identify areas for improvement.
- Preparing concise and timely QAPI reports, as required.
- Developing educational programs based on needs identified through QAPI activities and attending various meetings and providing reports as requested.
- Attending local professional educator's meetings and Bethesda monthly meetings.
- Serving as a role model to the staff and actively pursuing education related to job, keeping current in nursing issues (geriatrics, management, legislative).
Estimated Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 per year
