Chief Hardware Strategist for Automotive Innovation

We are seeking a seasoned leader to spearhead hardware development efforts at OSI Engineering.

Overview

The Director of Hardware for the new Automotive Design Center in Mountain View, CA will be responsible for overseeing hardware development within the hardware platform development division. This role requires a strategic thinker with experience in leading teams and driving innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for hardware development, aligning it with the company's overall business goals and long-term objectives.
  • Direct multiple hardware engineering teams led by senior managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, integrity, inclusion, transparency, accountability, and compassion.
  • Oversee and align budgets and staffing demands across hardware development teams, ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Lead the development of talent pipelines and succession plans to ensure a robust and skilled workforce for the future.
  • Act as an advocate for the hardware development division, representing its interests to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and communication across multiple hardware engineering teams, ensuring that information and best practices are shared effectively.
  • Provide advice, guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback to hardware team members and senior managers.

Financial Management

  • Collaborate with the VP of Engineering HW Platform Development to lead forecasting budgetary requirements for annual planning rounds.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive financial strategy for hardware development, aligning budgeting efforts with the long-term goals of the organization and the specific needs of hardware development teams.
  • Implement financial controls and reporting mechanisms to monitor expenditures, ensuring that budgets are adhered to across hardware development teams.
  • Drive financial transparency and accountability within hardware development teams, ensuring that senior managers are informed and responsible for their budgets.

Hardware Development Roadmap

  • Develop and maintain a roadmap for the evolution of hardware architecture and technology stack, ensuring it aligns with the long-term business strategy.
  • Lead the development of hardware solutions, considering factors like cost-effectiveness, scalability, and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Foster innovation within hardware development teams to explore emerging technologies and methodologies that can enhance product quality and efficiency.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in hardware development.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in the automotive industry.
  • Experience in developing strategies for R&D.
  • Experience with mass product production is critical.
  • Proficiency in managing teams, including senior engineers and senior managers.
  • Proven ability to cope with conflict, stress, and crisis situations.
  • Proven ability to develop a strategic vision for hardware development that aligns with the company's overall business strategy.
  • Able to manage team differences within a culturally diverse environment.
  • Deep knowledge of hardware development processes and experienced with introducing mass production techniques.
  • Proficiency in identifying and mitigating risks associated with hardware development projects and initiatives, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Ability to mentor team members and senior managers, facilitating skill development across various disciplines and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Experience in developing complex hardware products using agile methods and processes across large, distributed organizations.
  • Skill in optimizing resource allocation, including personnel, budget, and technology, to achieve project goals efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Demonstrated successes in developing strong long-term working relationships across many layers of an international organization and across cultural boundaries.
  • Developing products for mass production.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Infotainment and Driver Assistance Systems is desired.

Work Arrangements: Flexible work arrangements available, with Monday and Friday remote workdays, Tuesday through Thursday on-site in Mountain View, CA. Worldwide travel required, less than 25% (about once a quarter) to locations such as Germany and India.

Salary: $220k-$320k+
