Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to provide support to in-house counsel in responding to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests and FOIL appeals. The successful candidate will assist in performing legal tasks in connection with the implementation of Empire State Development's economic development mission and purpose.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Corporation's Record Access Officer in responding to FOIL requests for records, including running searches, collecting relevant material, and maintaining a log of requests and responses.
  • Assist in drafting and preparing internal and external correspondence, as well as corresponding with members of the public regarding requests.
  • Prepare responses to FOIL requests and appeals, and assist in calendaring and managing deadlines.
  • Perform other legal tasks as needed, including assisting other members of the Legal Department with legal work on an as-needed basis.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or Associate's degree with 7 years of direct relevant experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, superior organizational skills, and ability to work collegially and effectively in a team setting.
