EHS Safety Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Technician to join our team at South Bay Sand Blasting & Tank Cleaning, Inc. in Norfolk, VA. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety and be able to perform a variety of duties, including ship inspections, training, and hazardous waste removal.
Responsibilities:
- Perform various physical duties as assigned, including ship inspections and hazardous waste removal
- Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols
- Conduct industrial hygiene surveys and accident investigations
- Provide safety data sheets and implement and follow company safety policies
- Work in confined spaces and be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with a focus on environmental health and safety
- Two years of experience in EH&S, with a strong understanding of OSHA Maritime Standards
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines, and to communicate effectively with coworkers
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Work is conducted indoors and outdoors, frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work may involve fumes, chemicals, and heat, as well as noise and dust. Safety equipment is required.
The individual must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, and be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.

Other requirements include a pre-employment medical test, participation in E-Verify, and the ability to qualify for DBIDS security clearance.
U.S. Citizenship is preferred, and the ability to read technical English is a must.
