Job Overview

Plymouth Housing Group is seeking a Community Specialist to support residents by working in a team environment, maintaining high-quality service delivery based on the values inherent in our mission, principles of cultural proficiency, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.

Salary: $29.02-$29.02 per hour

This is a unionized position represented by Local 8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with tenants, building staff, and partners to offer regular culturally relevant activities that meet a wide range of tenant needs and interests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with tenants, building staff, and partners to plan and execute community events, including social activities, health initiatives, life skills workshops, educational opportunities, treatment programs, peer groups, and field trips.
  • Welcome new residents to a safe and inclusive environment, supporting the orientation and onboarding program to acclimate residents to their new home, understand building expectations, and form relationships with staff and residents.
  • Identify and secure materials and supplies needed for events, maintain a supply of welcome baskets for new tenants, arrange for and/or distribute food to tenants during events.
  • Create respectful and trusting relationships with tenants, transport groups of tenants to external activities using company vehicles, create schedules for community bus service or transportation.
  • Mediate conflict using de-escalation techniques, intervene in crisis situations as necessary, assist with resident complaints and concerns, escalating them to the Residential Services Manager as needed.
  • Distribute newsletters, brochures, and other relevant materials to residents, ensuring communication accommodates language differences, cultural differences, visual impairments, and other necessary accommodations requested by residents.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, GED certification, or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience.
  • Two years' experience working in the human services field, preferably with low-income, diverse, homeless, and special needs clients.
  • Valid Washington State Driver License with a fully insurable driving record.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of voices, ability to be calm and exercise good judgment during emergency and stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently and with high motivation, ability to work cooperatively in partnership with community stakeholders and resources, flexibility, and a proactive presence during non-event hours.
