Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will be a crucial part of a care team, dedicated to delivering high-quality nursing care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform routine patient care functions as prescribed by established policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
  2. Utilize and practice "basic assessment" (e.g., data collection) and document data in accordance with JWCH's policies and procedures, as well as the standards of LVN practice.
  3. Contribute to the evaluation of the patient's individualized interventions related to the care plan and treatment plan.
  4. Execute basic patient care consistently with JWCH's policies and procedures and the LVN licensure laws of the State of California.
  5. Apply principles of aseptic technique and infection control as per policy and procedures.
  6. Employ and reinforce proper body mechanics and appropriate personal protective equipment.
  7. Recognize the need for emergency care, initiate appropriate procedures within the scope of practice, and promptly alert the Nurse Manager and physician.
  8. Conduct patient education and support patients' self-management goals following JWCH's policies and procedures.
  9. Delegate selected tasks to a medical assistant, consistent with their job description and JWCH's policies and procedures.
  10. Assist medical personnel with procedures and/or diagnostic exams.
  11. Maintain cleanliness and stocking of patient exam rooms and work areas.
  12. Document relevant patient information, performed procedures, and patient responses according to established policies and procedures.
  13. Immediately document all patient care in the medical record after performing any task.
  14. Assist in the maintenance, care, and handling of medical equipment.
  15. Uphold standards of cleanliness, organization, and an adequate supply level for assigned exam rooms or work areas.
  16. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in equipment use and cleaning based on specific manufacturers' instructions and the policy and procedure manual.
  17. Hold responsibility and accountability for adherence to organizational and department standards and policies.
  18. Observe departmental guidelines concerning absences and report absences following departmental procedures.
  19. Identify potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and proactively report them to the supervisor.
  20. Participate in assigned organizational programs/committees.
  21. Demonstrate effective working relationships and collaborate effectively as part of the team to contribute to the organization's goals and objectives.
  22. Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements:
  1. Current and valid California LVN License.
  2. Current BLS card from the American Heart Association.
  3. At least one-year experience in an ambulatory care setting.
  4. Experience in working with clients and staff from diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  5. Proficient in clinical procedures and nursing practices.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  8. Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  9. Current and valid California Driver's License with current car insurance.
  10. Bilingual (English/Spanish) Preferred.
