Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Earthquake Geologist to join our team at the State of Alaska. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research and analysis in earthquake geology, paleoseismology, and GIS-based geospatial data analysis.

About the Role

The Geologist 3 position is located at the DGGS Main Office in Fairbanks, Alaska. As a member of the Earthquake and Tsunami Hazards Program, you will work closely with colleagues to advance our understanding of earthquake and tsunami hazards in Alaska.

Responsibilities
  • Synthesize surficial geologic and geomorphic data for hazard characterization near the Yukon River bridge in Interior Alaska.
  • Use GIS to create and manage digital data for report figures and map publications.
  • Conduct remote fieldwork and analyze data from large datasets, maps, and reports.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in geology, geophysics, or a related field.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in earthquake geology, neotectonics, or closely related fields.
  • Experience using GIS to create and manage digital data for report figures and map publications.
