Job Summary:

The Senior Software Architect at Allstate Benefits designs and implements large-scale distributed systems and applications for the cloud, leveraging modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems. They apply a systematic application of scientific and technological knowledge, methods, and experience to the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software. They own and manage running their application in lower environments and support production, and ultimately become accountable for the success of their digital products through achieving KPIs.

Key Responsibilities:


• Participate in product scoping, discovery, and framing, and inceptions providing technical input and help translate user features into system design.

• Lead and participate in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the product manager.

• Lead and participate in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups.

• Lead the effort of shaping the architecture and design of the product.

• Lead collaboration and strategy alignment across product portfolios (cross-product) in partnership with product managers, other peers, and key stakeholders.

• Serve as an expert on multiple business domains and a distinguished advocate of multiple technology stacks, sharing that knowledge across organizations.

• Serve as the anchor of the team and practice technical leadership, helping guide the team in choosing the right technology, solving technical problems, and resolving any technical conflicts within the team.

• Coach the team and lead daily practices of using paired programming and test-driven development in writing software and building products.

• Establish continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices.

• Lead and participate in knowledge sharing and contribute to the overall growth of the collective knowledge of the CompoZed Labs community.

• Develop and implement systems at scale, preferably in Java and Spring Boot, with a strong understanding of design patterns, object-oriented principles, and a desire to continuously improve code.

Education and Experience:


• 4-year bachelor's degree (Preferred)

• 7 or more years of experience (Preferred)

• In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Strong Java development skills, preferably with experience in Spring, and a solid understanding of distributed systems, REST principles, databases, and security best practices.

Functional Skills:


• Experience developing user interfaces with JavaScript, preferably with React/Redux, and knowledge of web and API security, including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML.

• Experience in backend development design and implementation, including database (relational, NoSQL, caching), messaging, and big data development, implementation, and optimization.

• Knowledge and advanced experience using distributed version control systems (git), artifact management systems, build and packaging systems (maven, gradle, npm, artifactory, etc.), and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, TravisCI, Concourse, Bamboo, GoCD).

• Actual experience working in an eXtreme Programming (XP) or agile environment, and experience/knowledge with Cloud/AWS a plus.

• Compensation offered for this role is $105,500.00-$178,250.00 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
