Job Summary:

As a CRNA Nurse Anesthetist Lead, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and leading a team of advanced practice clinicians. This leadership position requires a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to mentor and guide others.

Key Responsibilities:

Acts as a mentor and expert resource to advanced practice clinicians, providing training, orienting, and clinical work direction.
Participates in recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of employees, as well as staff development and employee morale.
Participates in the annual merit-based evaluation process and provides clinical and professional performance feedback to each APC.
Develops and maintains orientation plans, work improvement plans, clinical competencies, and various communication tools.
Collaborates with professional and ancillary staff to ensure high-quality and efficient patient care.
Acts as a liaison for communication between ancillary departments and participates in meetings/updates with Coding and Billing, Compliance, Pharmacy, and other specialties.
Assists in program development by participating in practice goal setting, new program/service development/deployment, resource allocation, and community outreach.
Coordinates education for APCs related to specialty practice changes and updates.
Provides clinical guidance to advanced practice clinicians regarding patient care and follows through with staff to ensure patient receives recommended care.
Responsible for narcotic accounting and distribution.
Provides anesthesia services, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care to patients.
Performs pre-anesthesia functions, including determining the appropriateness of pre-anesthetic examinations and reviewing patient conditions prior to anesthesia.
Performs post-anesthesia duties, including remaining with patients until it is safe to transfer responsibility for care and advising personnel responsible for post-anesthetic care.
Responds to life-threatening emergencies and assists nursing units with difficult intravenous insertions.
May administer anesthesia in collaboration with the anesthesiologist and provide labor analgesia in the Birth Day Center.
Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.

Requirements:

Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
Nurse Anesthetist certification (CRNA) issued by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association, obtained within 6 months.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, obtained within 6 months.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Heart Association/American Academy of Pediatrics.

Education:

Master's Degree in Nursing.

Experience:

Typically requires 3 years of experience in providing and coordinating care for patients with acute, critical, and/or chronic health conditions as a nurse anesthetist or in a leadership capacity.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated leadership skills, including delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem solving, and decision making.
Demonstrated high level of clinical proficiency.
Must be able to fulfill department schedule needs, which may include 24/7 call and weekend coverage, as needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must have functional vision and hearing.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines.
Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids.
Will be required to wear gloves, goggles, and gowns on an as-needed basis.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
