Senior Manager of Construction Estimates Job Description

Layton Construction is seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager of Construction Estimates to join our team. As a seasoned expert in the field, you will be responsible for managing and assisting in the compilation of estimates for various projects, ensuring cost accuracy and providing appropriate responses to client requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion 'The Layton Way' by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and clients.
  • Ensure that 'Constructing with Integrity' is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
  • Prepare estimates and supplementary information for potential projects.
  • Read, understand, and offer improvements to contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
  • Offer Value-Engineering and Life-Cycle cost options for review.
  • Perform quantity take-offs, organize, price, and analyze information.
  • Understand the difference between the narrow focus of just cost estimating services and the broader scope of preconstruction services.
  • Work well with architects and owners and provide leadership in the preconstruction process and demonstrate best practices throughout preconstruction.
  • Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Communicate with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction-related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in estimating data center projects ($100M+).
  • Demonstrating competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating.
  • Possessing sufficient knowledge of all construction systems and disciplines, including mechanical and electrical, to complete comprehensive cost estimates without assistance from others.
  • Good working knowledge of self-performed concrete construction.
  • Experience in estimating at all stages of design: conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documents.
  • Understanding and utilizing proven estimating and bidding strategies.
  • Fully understanding and practicing the principles of Target Value Design.
  • Ability to utilize the latest estimating software used by Layton.
  • Proven working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and coordinate team members.
  • Integrity: maintains normal standards of ethics, conduct, and organizational policies in job-related activities.

This is a non-remote position, and you will be required to work in the office at our headquarters in Sandy, UT.
