Job Summary
The City of New York is seeking a Full-Time Catholic Chaplain to join the Chaplaincy Services Unit in the Division of Programs and Community Partnerships. The selected candidate will be assigned to the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of Program Operations under the direct purview of the Deputy Director of Chaplaincy Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct religious mandated and non-mandated services for individuals in custody
- Provide spiritual and moral guidance to staff and individuals in custody
- Interview and counsel persons in custody
- Schedule religious congregate services in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Coordinate congregate and community engagement events with internal and external stakeholders
- Notify next of kin in case of serious injury, illness, or death of a person in custody
- Assist with coordination of arrangements for persons in custody to attend the wake or funeral of an immediate family member
- Ensure data and tracking sheets pertaining to chaplaincy services are entered accurately and submitted in a timely fashion
- Schedule, supervise, and support religious volunteers
- Collaborate with other staff members in carrying out institutional programs
Qualifications
- Ecclesiastical endorsement by the official endorsing agency of the candidate's faith or denomination, and by the Committee on Chaplaincies
