About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Grant Writer and Development Specialist to join our team at Wisconsin Community Services. In this role, you will play a crucial part in securing funding for our programs and services, while also developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and develop high-level, complex proposals to secure funding from government entities, foundations, and other sources.

  • Develop and write compelling funding proposals and applications, providing leadership on large grant proposals as assigned.

  • Use exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills to complete all assigned writing projects and edit the work of others in the department.

  • Work closely with the Director of Development and Communication to implement our organization's development plan and fund-raising activities.

  • Take ownership of creating writing templates for specific uses, including standard agency resource pieces and items for proposals.

  • Prepare media and press releases for review by the Director of Development and Communication and the WCS Executive Team, distributing them to the appropriate media channels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, public policy, social welfare, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • Five to ten years of experience in proposal writing and/or fund development for human services organizations.

  • Prior development experience that includes knowledge of fundraising and research techniques, fundraising strategies, and informational sources is required.

  • Experience with proposal/grant writing and institutional donors is preferred.

  • Must have experience using computer databases, software programs (Word, Outlook, Excel), and making electronic funding submissions.

Working Conditions

The position is mostly sedentary with some travel, involving sitting for long periods of time, and the ability to use a computer and calculator. Some occasional public presentations may be required. The majority of the work week will be spent in the office, with the possibility of working from home one day per week.

Salary Range

The estimated salary for this position is $68,000 - $80,000, commensurate with education and experience.
