Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Hydraulic Structures Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our water resources group, you will be responsible for conducting structural analyses, evaluations and designs, and developing design options or recommendations.

You will work independently as a project engineer and provide oversight and mentorship of project and junior staff. This role may include leadership and expansion of HDR's structural engineering services, including client and strategic project development with Federal and State government agencies, water agencies and utilities, and power utilities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct structural analyses, evaluations and designs
  • Develop design options or recommendations
  • Prepare contract documents, including drawings, specifications, design documentation and criteria, and cost estimates
  • Lead design of various new and/or rehabilitation of hydraulic structures
  • Perform engineering assignments that require critical thinking and creativity
  • Coordinate structural design with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Review tasks undertaken by others in the group to ensure design compliance
  • Perform inspections and structural assessments of existing structures
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineers License
  • Interest or experience designing water resources projects
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel and Word, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and with a project team
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years general Civil Engineering experience
  • MS preferred
  • Strong background in finite element modeling and knowledge of computer-based design tools
