About the Role:
The Diagnostic Ultrasound Specialist will perform a variety of ultrasound exams under the general direction and supervision of senior technologists and radiologists. This role requires strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for ultrasound exams, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.
- Obtain optimal ultrasound images using proper techniques and equipment.
- Utilize Cerner, HIS, RIS, and PACS systems to manage patient records and communicate with healthcare teams.
- Assist physicians with biopsies, aspirations, transvaginal exams, OR exams, and other special procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of ultrasound exams, including patient information and exam details.
- Clean and maintain ultrasound equipment and examination rooms, adhering to universal precautions.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with the latest ultrasound techniques and technologies.
- Maintain required inventory of supplies and coordinate with the hospital's procurement team as needed.
- Ensure patient safety, well-being, and privacy at all times, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain accreditation status with ACR standards, contributing to the hospital's commitment to quality patient care.
- Instruct ultrasound students in clinical procedures, fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals.
- Responsible for adhering to all radiation protection standards and for donning all radiation protection apparel, including wearing and changing of current monitoring devices.
- Ability to disinfect all probes properly according to manufacturer requirements.
- Perform similar and related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathological processes pertinent to diagnostic ultrasound.
- Knowledge of ultrasound techniques, tests, and procedures.
- Operation knowledge of ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to make technical decisions to obtain the most accurate information for diagnosis.
- Ability to interact and communicate with patients, staff, and hospital personnel.
- Knowledge of blood-borne pathogens and universal precautions.
- Ability to lift and pull patients, push stretchers, and able to stand and walk.
- Graduate of an accredited program of diagnostic sonography approved by the American College of Radiology.
- Certified through the American Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) as RDMS (OB or AB), RT(S), RT (VS), RVT, or RVS). New graduates must obtain RDMS certification within one year of hire or within 24 months of their graduation date, whichever is less.
- Must maintain all qualifications from the American College of Radiology accreditation requirements for ultrasound and/or RT(S) continuing education requirements.
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
Estimated Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
