Job Summary

The Academic Advisor for the Program of Nursing will provide exceptional student support services by facilitating student retention, student satisfaction, and degree attainment. This role will also provide high-quality academic advising to School of Professional Advancement (SoPA) pre-nursing students with the goal of supporting strong student retention and timely matriculation to the program of nursing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Director of Curriculum and Academic Affairs to ensure exceptional student support services.
  • Facilitate student retention, student satisfaction, and degree attainment.
  • Provide high-quality academic advising to SoPA pre-nursing students.
  • Stay up to date on all policies, academic procedures, and best practices for SoPA and PON advisors.
  • Lead creative initiatives that emphasize proactive advising and an engaging nursing orientation program.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to the PON's Student Success Coach.
  • Comprehensively monitor student academic success.
  • Provide professional guidance, consultation, and expertise related to academic services and related technology.
  • Lead and manage academic advising processes to ensure student success.
Requirements
  • Working knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to student accommodation.
  • Proficient computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail, and internet applications, preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Ability to work with student databases and other information technology and web programs as required.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships quickly through phone, email, and texting tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Knowledge of student risk factors and ability to assess and provide high-level reports during team meetings.
  • Problem-solving and analysis skills and ability to create action plans that fall within the scope of the role and established guidelines.
  • Organizational skills and ability to work well with detailed information/data with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, personable, assertive, dependable, and work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during special events, as needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, social science, counseling, or other related field and two (2) years directly related experience.
  • Master's Degree.
  • Professional experience with problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of Banner and Salesforce.
