Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours
Experience: One-year post certification experience required; previous radiologic technologist experience preferred
License: LRT Kansas LRT required (applicable entities)
Certifications: ARRT-R - Registered Technologist, Radiology - R.T. (R) (ARRT); BLS - American Heart Association Current Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
Must-Have: Competency in Diagnostic Imaging, ARRT certification, BLS certification, Kansas LRT (as applicable)
Job Description:
- Provide quality patient care within the medical imaging department.
- Perform high-quality images and exams while maintaining sensitivity to patient needs.
- Follow standards of safe radiation practice and demonstrate leadership abilities.
- Act as a clinical resource to students, technologists, and hospital personnel.
- Assure current standards of practice for the unit.
- Perform diagnostic radiology procedures ensuring safety for self, patients, and others.
- Practice and adhere to all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety (ALARA).
- Produce quality images in a complete, accurate, and timely manner.
- Prepare patients for exams by providing information and instruction and addressing their physical and emotional needs.
- Assist and position patients during exams; report/document unusual occurrences and patient conditions.
- Facilitate smooth patient flow, scheduling, and optimal use of equipment/resources.
- Communicate in writing and verbally with physicians, imaging personnel, students, and staff to facilitate the continuum of care.
- Assist with patient transport as needed and perform IV starts and contrast administration when required.
- Perform technologist duties of other registered modalities as assigned by management.
- Provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours.
- Correctly input charges and required data for procedures and supplies used.
- Complete required hospital/medical imaging paperwork for each exam performed.
- Prepare rooms, equipment, and materials needed for exams.
- Maintain operation of equipment, notify service for repairs, and inform the supervisor about equipment issues.
- Maintain a clean work area for employees and patients.
- Conduct quality checks and equipment maintenance documentation as per procedure.
- Be proactive in problem identification and follow up with management.
- Establish a constructive rapport with physicians, staff, and departments.
- Maintain high skill levels through ongoing education and meeting attendance, sharing information with staff.
- Assist in the clinical and/or didactic education of student radiographers and other healthcare professionals.
- Show interest in teaching students, encourage them to perform exams, and provide feedback on radiographs.
- Engage in professional activities through organizational involvement, journal clubs, and online education.
- Actively participate in department/hospital quality and process improvement initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with all State, Federal, accreditation, and hospital regulations and standards.
- Contribute to accreditation efforts as requested.
- Demonstrate effective time management and prioritize workloads to meet productivity requirements.
- Adapt to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.
