At Palmetto State Armory, we're seeking an experienced Engineering Design Specialist to join our Product Development team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a talented group of individuals who share a passion for firearms and innovation.

Job Overview

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience, in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. Our ideal candidate will possess a strong background in engineering design, preferably with experience in firearm design and development.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical design support and problem-solving expertise to the organization.
  • Diagnose issues and implement technical continuous improvements that enhance quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Owning product design and performance for current and previously created products.
  • Executing product improvement and value engineering efforts that align with the goals of Production, Supply Chain, and Quality.
  • Implementing design for manufacturing techniques into existing production components.
  • Conducting fault analysis of mechanical systems and discovering root cause and corrective actions.
  • Performing design studies and tolerance analysis on critical mating components.
  • Implementing design changes by creating drawings and solid models through an ECR/ECO process.
  • Performing testing and analyzing test data. Creating test reports to document results and make design recommendations.
  • Contributing to R&D projects in a team setting to meet project cost targets and delivery dates.
  • Ensuring safe firearm handling practices are consistently followed.
  • Traveling between local locations and occasional infrequent travel may be required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience; firearm experience with handguns, MSRs, or other long guns preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and/or other 3D CAD software.
  • Working knowledge of drawing creation, including functional dimensioning schemes and appropriate GD&T.
  • High-level understanding of performing tolerance stack analyses; Tolerance Analysis software experience preferred.
  • Working-level understanding of one or more firearm or component types; high-level understanding preferred.
  • Working understanding of design for manufacturing for three or more manufacturing techniques; polymer injection molding, metal injection molding, machining, stamping, casting, forging, springs, etc., preferred.
  • Hand measurement experience with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and additional equipment required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive management and workgroup.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with sound decision-making ability.
  • Willingness to learn, improve, adapt, and be flexible while displaying ownership of problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication both orally and written.
  • Positive attitude, goal-driven, and focused on the overall strategic picture of the organization.
  • Proficient skills with computers, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
  • Experience using and maintaining firearms and related products is preferred.
  • Maintaining confidentiality is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Working Conditions

This role will involve working in a high-volume manufacturing environment, handling chemicals, and working with manual and automated equipment and systems. Specific job assignments may require day, evening, weekend, or holiday hours. Overtime may be required.

This position requires standing, walking, carrying, pulling/pushing, bending, seeing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, hearing, and handing paperwork, computer, and phone usage. Lifting objects weighing 50 lbs. or less regularly is also required. Cleaning materials and chemicals are used regularly.
