Job Summary

Christiana Care is seeking a skilled Mental Health Associate to contribute to the overall operation of the organization and provide exceptional care to behavioral health patients. This role will collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop patient treatment plans, diagnoses, and behavioral care plans. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehend psychiatric diagnoses and develop effective treatment plans.
  • Provide care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric behavioral health populations.
  • Diffuse crisis situations and assist in calming patients who exhibit violent behavior.
  • Customize interventions to de-escalate behavioral crises and promote patient-centered care.
  • Communicate patient behaviors to healthcare team professionals and initiate standardized behavioral care plans.
  • Participate in direct patient care and provide education to staff members on behavioral techniques.
  • Assist with patient discharge and planning procedures.
  • Perform environmental safety rounds and monitor performance improvement protocols.
  • Represent the unit on committees to provide input on psychiatric protocols and procedures.

Requirements

A B.S. in Psychology, Sociology, Education, or a related discipline is required. One year of experience in nursing educational groups is preferred. Alternatively, an A.S. in Mental Health Services or a related principle with three years of experience in nursing educational groups is acceptable. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification is required within twelve months of employment. BLS certification is also required.
