
Meat Department Operations Manager

As a Meat Team Leader at Whole Foods Market, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of meat operations are maintained. This includes overseeing all aspects of daily operations, including profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, labor, regulatory compliance, and special projects as assigned. You will be accountable for Team Member hiring, development, corrective actions, and separations.
Key Responsibilities- Hold ATLs, supervisors, and Team Members accountable for delivering exceptional customer service.
- Make hiring and separation decisions in partnership with Store Leadership.
- Monitor and achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets.
- Develop and manage annual sales projections and operating budgets.
- Optimize ordering and inventory to drive targeted contribution to profit margin.
- Maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with departmental and store leadership.
- Foster positive vendor partnerships.
- Stay up-to-date on relevant competitors and industry trends.
- Set and achieve the highest retail execution standards.
- Cultivate a positive work environment through outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale.
- Drive customer satisfaction by maintaining awareness of customer flows and needs and directing Team Members accordingly.
- Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel Team Members to sustain a high-performance team and minimize turnover.
- Ensure Team Member safety and security standards are communicated and maintained.
- Conduct timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations.
- Consistently communicate and model WFM's vision and goals.
- Advanced knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management.
- Food safety certification is required; if not already certified, commit to completing certification within 6 months.
- Certified Meat Journeyman or equivalent training.
- Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team-building, and customer relationship skills.
- Ability to teach others effectively.
- Thorough product knowledge.
- Advanced understanding of regulatory and safety policies and procedures.
- Strong mathematical skills for financial assessment and inventory management.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, decision-making capacity, and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency in email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications.
- 24+ months of retail experience, including 12+ months of team leadership experience.
This position requires an estimated salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, based on national averages for similar positions in the United States. Your actual compensation may vary based on factors such as location, experience, and performance.
