Customer Service Representative

This role is an excellent opportunity to provide exceptional customer service and support to the public, partners, and USFS staff at the Uwharrie District Office.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring front desk coverage is maintained during normal business hours, including options such as hiring short-term help, volunteers, interns, contractors, or other staff available on the district.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring front desk operations are running smoothly, including supervision of POS sales, security of passes and other accountable property, and providing customer service to the public, partners, and USFS staff.
- Oversight of employee check-in/out sheet and radio communication with district staff.
- Notifying DR and/or supervisor when employees have failed to report in on time.
- Ensuring timely counting and deposit of collections from campgrounds and vendors through coordination with the Recreation Staff each week.
- Ensuring the mailroom is well-stocked and functioning in a manner that provides adequate services to the district staff.
- Ensuring the parking lot and office kiosk are well-stocked, clear of debris/snow or ice, and communicating needs to clean the parking lot with rec or fire staff.
- Providing professional, courteous, timely, and accurate information to the public in an efficient manner, confirming accuracy of policy as necessary with supervisor or other staff.
- Proactively resolving issues or complaints from the public in a timely manner, seeking assistance from DR, acting DR, recreation staff, or appropriate program area staff officer as necessary.
- Identifying opportunities to improve RD office functionality and appearance for the benefit of the public and employees.
- Maintaining qualifications as a purchase card holder, collection officer, sale of firewood permits, and other roles necessary for the position.
- Consolidating and monitoring planned acquisition and purchase lists, communicating directly with district program managers regarding available remaining funding for purchases, travel/training, etc.
- Managing UCO duties for Uwharrie NF, assisting in coordinating all POS and Recreation fees collection processes with District personnel, and developing improved strategies when/where needed.
- Maintaining an understanding of Forest/District budget processes, expenditures, and remaining fund balances, communicating reminders to district via email, staff meetings, or at monthly staff meetings regarding paycheck submittals or other unique circumstances related to pay, travel, etc.
- Serving as the lead micro-purchasing agent for the Uwharrie, maintaining all training requirements for yourself, and ensuring requisition forms for all purchases are filled out and signed by the Supervisor/District Ranger.
- Entering contract actions into IAS, ensuring IAS requisitions are correctly entered through coordination with district staff and/or SO, and maintaining records to standard for purchasing, delegations of authority, etc.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Completion of 2 years at an accredited university, an Associate's degree, or higher.
- US citizenship or permanent residency.
The Greening Youth Foundation offers a competitive compensation package, including:
- $16.50/hr.
- $50/month Commuter Stipend.
- $1,000/month Housing Stipend.
- Up to $2,750 available for Forest Service work travel, orientation, trainings, professional development opportunities that align with RA role and goals.
- Option for health insurance coverage.
Please note that this is a 1099 position, and persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed. Independent contractors are required to pay all self-employment taxes (Social Security & Medicare) as well as income tax. Independent contractors generally do not receive any type of employment benefits from the client.
