Medical Assistant Pediatrician

The Pediatric Medical Assistant will perform a variety of administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the Practice Management, Senior Clinical Nurse, and Physician. Key responsibilities include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, taking and recording vital signs, social determinants of health, and medical histories. The ideal candidate will have a certificate or diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant Program and one year of experience in a similar role.
Responsibilities:
- Verify patient identification in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, ensuring they are neat, clutter-free, clean, and disinfected.
- Perform vital signs, height, and weight in preparation for patient visits.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information, including SDOH, family, social, medical, and surgical histories, medication reconciliation, and appropriate screenings.
- Assist with coordinating a warm hand-off to the appropriate behavioral health team member in response to any positive behavioral health screening result.
- Request medical records from outside providers or facilities when patients have informed team members they have seen another provider or been to the hospital since the last visit.
- Order, perform, and document point-of-care tests (POCT) as per standing order protocol.
- Communicate any abnormal POCT results to providers upon receipt.
- Order Uniform Data System (UDS) required health maintenance screenings as per standing order protocol.
- Assist providers during visits with procedures, lab collections, or exams as requested.
- Perform certain medical procedures, such as administration of subcutaneous and intramuscular injections/vaccines, POCT, suture/staple removal, EKGs, nebulizer treatments, and ear lavage as ordered.
- Check patients out after completion of visits by providing instructions and education per provider orders, scheduling next appointments, assisting with coordination of health maintenance screening appointments, and completing any additional pending orders.
- Perform essential office operations, including maintaining various logs and control testing for POCT equipment and liaising with hospital and physician offices to assist with coordinating continuity of care.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Maintain, monitor, and dispose of biohazard waste into biohazard containers per OSHA guidelines.
- Prepare collected specimens for internal or external laboratory analysis, including proper labeling and completion of appropriate laboratory requisition forms.
- Assist with ordering supplies by communicating with the ordering designee to ensure appropriate supplies are on hand.
- Assist with tracking expiring supplies to ensure they are removed from clinic use and disposed of appropriately at time of expiration.
- Perform scanning of any documents, outside records, or results that need to be part of the patient's medical record.
- Communicate results to patients per provider instructions following diagnostic result tracking procedures.
- Maintain OSHA guidelines for the department.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certificate or diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant Program required.
- One year of experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
- Current ACLS or BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Certification from AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT preferred.
