The Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments (MOTA) seeks a seasoned leader to serve as the African American Community Engagement Director. This critical role will be responsible for driving engagement, empowerment, and improvement of services for African-American communities in the District of Columbia.

Job Overview

MOTA is dedicated to promoting equity and inclusion across all aspects of government. The successful candidate will have a strong background in public policy, community organizing, and constituent engagement.

We are looking for a strategic leader who can develop and implement effective programs that address the unique needs of African-American residents. This position requires excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of the District's government and private sector groups, and the ability to build strong relationships with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and the private sector.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement strategies to engage and empower African-American communities, including identifying areas for service improvement and bringing them to the attention of the Mayor and the Commission on African-American Affairs.
  2. Serve as an advocate for African-American communities in the District, working closely with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and the private sector to promote their interests and needs.
  3. Lead the development of programs that enhance and expand services to African-American communities, including outreach and education initiatives, economic development projects, and health and wellness programs.
  4. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including community leaders, elected officials, and other government agencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Community Organizing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in public policy, community organizing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the District's government and private sector groups, including community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and the private sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
