Job Summary

The National Youth Advocate Program is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our front-end assessment team, you will work closely with referral sources, hospital social workers, and other community venues to provide timely and professional clinical services to vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform front-end assessments and evaluations to determine the correct service venue for clients
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with referral sources, hospital social workers, and other community venues
  • Provide individual therapy, depression, anger management, and medical providers for related medical conditions
  • Diagnose mental illness using DSM VI and create linkage and referrals for follow-up services
  • Utilize standardized assessment tools to help gauge client appropriateness for services

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or comparable Human Services field from an accredited institution
  • 2 years of work experience working in the mental health field in a crisis setting
  • Ability to relate therapeutically with clients, display cultural sensitivity, and strong sense of empathy
  • Knowledge of Medicaid Rules and other funder expectations
  • Familiarity and knowledge of DSM VI and psychological testing
