Dental Care Coordinator

Zufall Health is seeking a highly skilled Dental Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our dental department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care.
Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will assist dentists and dental hygienists in providing primary care dental services to patients. This will include tasks such as preparing operatory rooms, assisting with procedures, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities- Serves as a chair-side assistant for dentists and dental hygienists
- Prepares operatory rooms according to department protocols and dentist/dental hygienist directions
- Assists patients with minor issues, answers questions, and provides directions as authorized by dentists or dental hygienists
- Exposes and develops dental radiographs according to state regulations and law, as well as department directives and protocols
- Performs independent procedures delegated and directed by dentists according to state regulations and law, as well as department directives and protocols
- Maintains dental department equipment according to manufacturer's directions and department policies and protocols
- Maintains all dental department areas in compliance with department directives and protocols, as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control, and safety issues
- Maintains adequate operatory supplies and compiles lists of individual item shortages for inventory control and ordering purposes
- Maintains lists of all dental department patients, monitors patient flow, and assists Chief Dental Officer, dentists, and dental hygienists in ensuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and filed
- Takes necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business, and patient care of the dental department
- Assists with various clinical and administrative functions of the center as appropriate
- Ensures sterility of all reusable dental instruments and equipment according to department directives and protocols
- Ensures proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials according to department directives, center policies, and state and federal regulations
- Performs all functions in full compliance with the center's and the dental department Exposure Control Plan, including but not limited to the use of Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions
- Participates in appropriate health promotion/disease prevention activities, both on-site and off-site as required
- Travels when necessary to meet operational needs
- Performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives, as directed by supervisors
- Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures, including but not limited to participation in the provision of clinical dental care, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality
- Conducts routine testing of dental units
- Ensures proper coverage of auxiliary staff when staff call out sick, providing lunch and late coverage
- Demonstrates and teaches new staff, students, interns, and volunteers the use of equipment and proper dental protocol as it relates to patient care
To be considered for this role, candidates must have:
- A comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting techniques and procedures for all phases of general dentistry
- Able to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English are required; effective oral communication skills in Spanish are preferred
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours may be required; frequent exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation, and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered
- Prolonged sitting or standing may be required; physical movements and degree of mobility, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination normally associated with dental assisting in general practice dentistry will be performed on a repetitive basis

- Estimated salary: $21-$27.82 per hour, depending on experience
- Certified Dental Assistant certification
- Registered Dental Assistant preferred
- Current CPR (BLS) certification required
