The City of Bellevue, WA is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Adaptive Recreation Program Staff to join our team at the Highland Community Center. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities by facilitating adaptive recreation programs that promote socialization, learning, and fun.

Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual who can lead groups of 10-30 people in adaptive recreation programs such as art, dance, BINGO, sports, fitness, crafts, and special events. As an Adaptive Recreation Program Staff member, you will be responsible for creating displays, adapting course material to participant ability levels, and providing assistance feeding participants. You will also work closely with volunteers and other staff members to ensure the success of our programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate all aspects of recreation within assigned program for participants
  • Responsible for assigned class activities
  • Coaches
  • Performs data entry for program management
  • Leads volunteers
  • Teaches (small classes)
  • Creates displays
  • Adapt course material to participant ability level
  • Accountable for participants during programs
  • Provide assistance feeding participants
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have prior experience working with children or adults living with intellectual disabilities. First Aid, CPR, or other specialized training or experience will be required. Additionally, you must be able to collaborate and communicate effectively with other staff members, provide exceptional customer service, and uphold the City of Bellevue's values of Exceptional Public Service, Stewardship, Commitment to Employees, Integrity, Innovation, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Benefits

This is a variable, non-exempt, non-union position. The City of Bellevue offers competitive pay, including an estimated salary range of $18.15 - $25.05 per hour, depending on experience. Additionally, employees receive participation in the retirement plan, which will be the Municipal Employees Benefit Trust (MEBT II) retirement plan or the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) retirement plan, and any other benefits as required by law.
