Licensed Veterinary Technician, Surgery

The Virginia Veterinary Center in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our outstanding Surgery team. As a key member of our team, you will be set up for success with extensive training in our Emergency department and collaboration with our incredible Surgery team at our Richmond location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collecting diagnostic samples, imaging, and non-laboratory diagnostics (BP, EKG, SPO2) for analysis while understanding normal parameter markers to facilitate diagnostic preparation and communication to Veterinarians.
- Facilitating proper procedure for collecting and submitting diagnostic samples to outside laboratories.
- Assisting Veterinarians in all aspects during surgical procedures, including developing anesthetic protocol, administration of pre-medications and induction agents, intubation, surgical prep, maintenance and monitoring of general anesthesia, assisting in surgical procedure as needed, recovery care of patients post anesthetic episodes, proper medical documentation of anesthesia monitoring, and understanding side effects of anesthetic agents being administered.
- Calculating, creating, and administering constant rate infusions such as Dopamine CRIs, Fentanyl CRIs, Lidocaine CRIs, and more.
- Practicing patient and empathetic client service skills when communicating with clients at all stages of their visit, including triaging, discharging, or providing medical updates on hospitalized patients.
- Properly discharging patients by filling all required medications, ensuring patients are clean and comfortable, removing intravenous catheters, approving final invoices, and reviewing discharges with pet owners.
- Credentialed veterinary technician with strong technical skills (to include placing IV catheters, venipuncture, administering premedication, anesthesia induction & monitoring, patient preparation, surgical nursing, and perioperative nursing care, radiographs, etc.)
