Job Overview

We're seeking an Academic Specialist in US History Education to join our team at Uncommon High School. As a member of our department, you'll play a critical role in developing and implementing engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of all learners. Your expertise in World, US History, American Government, and Economics will be invaluable in preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework.

Main Responsibilities

  • You will design and deliver high-quality instructional materials and lessons that promote critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • You will facilitate student-led discussions and debates on historical topics, encouraging students to develop their voices and perspectives.
  • You will work closely with colleagues to ensure seamless alignment between departments and grade levels.
  • You will analyze student data to inform instruction and drive student achievement.
  • You will participate in ongoing professional development to enhance your skills and stay up-to-date on best practices in education.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; master's degree preferred.
  • Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities.
  • Prior experience teaching K-12 students in urban settings highly valued.
  • Certification in New York State not required but encouraged.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $52,500 - $65,300, based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, you'll receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement savings plan.
