Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our team at ManTech. As a key member of our National Security Space team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our nation's space systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and update System Safety documentation, including the System Safety Management Plan and Programmatic Environmental Safety and Health Evaluations, to ensure compliance with National Security Space Acquisition Policy and Air Force requirements.
  • Draft and coordinate the approval of orbital safety products, including Space Debris Assessment Reports and Orbital Debris Mitigation Standard Practices documentation, for all NSS launches.
  • Provide acquisition support by drafting and assessing safety-related content and requirements in acquisition request for proposal documents, such as Performance Work Statements and Contract Data Requirements Lists.
  • Support Debris Characterization efforts by coordinating with the DC project manager and arranging for imaging and airborne assets to collect detailed data for each launch.
  • Perform general system safety tasks, including interpretation of requirements and assessment of contractor safety submittals.
  • Develop and present technical summary reports, status reports, and other presentation materials as required by the customer.
  • Interface with technical representatives, including other Assured Access to Space functional areas, Range Safety, New Entrant, FFRDC, Launch Service Providers, and other Government agencies.
  • Support Mishap Control Center operations by preparing documentation, checklists, and other materials, and conducting MCC operations.
  • Assess Launch Service Provider hazard analyses to verify all hazards are properly identified, assessed, and mitigated to acceptable levels.
  • Assess and report on open launch and range safety items and provide written recommendations for disposition.
  • Provide reviews, evaluations, and assessments of system hazard analyses, systems safety management plans, anomalies, and compliance with industry standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 7 years of STEM experience in relevant fields, with at least 3 years of NSSL, Launch/Range, DoD, NASA, or industry equivalent systems safety experience.
  • Relevant work experience in the military or industry may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
  • Experience interfacing with computer-based database and schedule tools.
  • Experience with MS Office tools, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Some CONUS travel required.
  • US Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with DOD and Air Force system safety-related documents, such as AFI 91-202, MIL-STD-882E, and AFSPCMAN requirements.
  • Experience applying system safety requirements and best practices to space and launch systems, ground site activities, or launch operations.
  • Experience with Environmental Compliance/NEPA.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to present information in virtual and in-person environments.
Clearance Requirements
  • Active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
