Public Health Nurse

About This Role:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to protecting and promoting the health of its citizens. As a Public Health Nurse, you will play a vital role in this mission by providing professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes, and schools.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provides professional nursing care to patients with diverse health needs, including those with infectious diseases and chronic conditions.• Conducts health assessments, performs lab tests, and develops care plans to address individual patient needs.• Administers medication, including vaccinations and other treatments as prescribed.• Collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care and coordinate referrals as needed.• Participates in public health emergencies, such as disease outbreaks, and contributes to community health assessments and interventions.
Requirements:
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Virginia or a compact state.• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.• Ability to function independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing situations.• Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of epidemiology, and basic nursing science.• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR and adherence to all safety policies, including immunization and driver safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in a public health setting or related field.• Additional study in health promotion or public health.
