We are seeking a skilled Mechanical-Automation Engineer to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As an Automation Systems Designer for Surgical Innovation, you will play a critical role in developing new mechanical systems for biological sample handling in the context of high-speed machine vision for surgical applications.

About the Project

">

Tulane's School of Science and Engineering is embarking on a multi-year project to improve outcomes for prostate and colorectal cancer surgical patients. The project involves rapidly scanning tumor excisions with high resolution and precision and using advanced machine-learning techniques to detect residual tumor cells on the surface.

Your Responsibilities

">

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the success of the project. Your key responsibilities will include:

> • Developing new mechanical systems for biological sample handling

> • Collaborating with engineers, scientists, and clinicians to design and implement automation solutions

> • Integrating machine vision technology with mechanical systems to enhance accuracy and efficiency

> • Troubleshooting and optimizing system performance

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

> • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, with at least 5 years of applicable mechanical engineering experience

> • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication and teamwork abilities

> • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

> • Experience with Python/C++/C# programming or equivalent, as well as machine vision experience
