Job Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, healthy, and well-maintained area of assignment. The successful candidate will assist in accomplishing building service duties in various locations and job assignments due to employee or supervisor absence. This role will act as backup support to the Building Service Supervisor and the Building Service Technician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cleaning duties in assigned areas, including but not limited to:
    • Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks, showers, and restocking dispensers
    • Straightening, dusting, wiping surfaces, vacuuming/sweeping, and mopping floors
    • Cleaning whiteboards and washing windows
    • Washing and wiping down trash cans and taking out trash
  • Act as backup/fill-in for Building Services Technician and Building Services Supervisor
  • Perform building services work in addition to directing and coordinating staff, as needed, to accomplish work goals
  • Provide additional work assistance to custodians as directed by Building Service Supervisor
  • Strive to create and contribute to a pleasant work environment by treating all levels of staff with respect and cooperation
  • Work as an individual or as part of a team to meet and exceed standards for assigned staff with respect and cooperation
  • Promote a positive team spirit within the department and the workplace
  • Unlock/lock buildings and keep entrances safe and clean
  • Clean spills, soiled areas, and other conditions as observed and/or directed
  • Maintain all equipment and supplies in proper condition and store them properly
  • Ensure work areas are safe and that procedures regarding cleaners or objects are strictly adhered to
  • Stock all equipment and supply carts with adequate supplies
  • Ensure cleaning schedules are followed
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Report maintenance and repair needs via the work order system
  • Work with Building Services Supervisor to promote safety
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Required 1-2 years related experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must present a neat, clean, well-groomed appearance
  • Must be in good physical health; walking/standing, reaching, bending/twisting, kneeling/crouching/crawling, lifting, forceful gripping/grasping, pushing, pulling, or repetitive motion about 95% of the time
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate low and high impact tools
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
  • Work from a ladder and work with arms and hands overhead
  • Must be able to work well with little or no supervision and take direction
  • Must be able to maintain a courteous, friendly, and helpful attitude with individuals on campus
  • Must be cooperative and willing to help fellow coworkers at all times
  • Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces
