Job Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Serials Cataloger to join our esteemed library team. As a critical member of the cataloging unit, you will play a vital role in maintaining and organizing our extensive collection of materials.

Salary Information

The estimated annual salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000, depending on experience. This figure is based on industry standards and the location of Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties as a Serials Cataloger will include:

  • Developing and implementing original and copy-level catalog collections of English and/or foreign language serial materials across various subject areas.
  • Efficiently processing titles in one or more languages by providing required metadata in MARC21-compliant bibliographic records.
  • Organizing and classifying the collection of serial materials, books, manuscripts, photographs, and other archival items using in-house classification requirements.
  • Creating and updating records in the cataloging system, ensuring accuracy and completeness in alignment with NACO standards.
  • Assisting with recommendations regarding new subject headings and/or classification numbers.
  • Staying up-to-date with developments in cataloging standards and best practices.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must possess:

  • A Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • At least 3 years of experience in cataloging.
  • Proven experience in transliteration.
  • Experience working with the Library of Congress is required.
  • Strong knowledge of cataloging standards, including RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC, and MARC21, BIBCO, and NACO.
  • Familiarity with various library management systems such as Voyager (preferred), ILS, OCLC Connexion, Classification Web, Cataloger's Desktop, and the LC Authorities list.
  • Hands-on experience with metadata and taxonomies for catalog collections.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, detailed orientation, and prioritization skills.
