Job Summary:

The Controller of JASA Housing Management Company (JHM) is responsible for the financial operations, general accounting, and planning for JASA's housing portfolio. This position works closely with the Executive Director of Real Estate and Management and other Housing Division personnel to ensure the effectiveness of financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, intercompany analysis, cash management, and tax reporting for JASA Housing Management and the eleven housing entities within the portfolio.

Coordinate the monthly and annual closing activities for JHM and the housing entities, working closely with the Controller of JASA Services on consolidated JASA management reporting.

Maintain the internal control environment for JHM and the eleven housing entities, ensuring compliance with GAAP and federal/NY State requirements.

Reconcile all inter-company activity affecting JHM and the housing entities, and prepare cash projections for JHM and analyze, monitor, and project the cash flow for all properties.

Responsible for the treasury management function, serving as the main liaison with our banks for JHM and the Housing entities, and reconcile the escrow accounts by property, including replacement reserves, water, tax, and sewer.

Participate in the annual budgeting process for JHM and the entire housing portfolio, and coordinate the annual financial and governmental audits for JHM and the housing portfolio, serving as the primary liaison with the independent auditors.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in accounting is required, with a CPA preferred. At least 8 to 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years working for a large real estate corporation or a non-profit, is required. Strong knowledge of real estate accounting, including construction, renovation, and refinancing activities, is essential. Proficient in MS Excel and familiar with general ledger software packages specific to the real estate industry, such as RealPage Accounting or OneSite, is required.
