Job Summary

As a Certified Nursing Assistant at Alden Estates of Barrington, you will provide daily nursing care to residents in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. You will work closely with the Charge Nurse, Supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing, or Administrator to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans for residents.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort to residents and their families.
  • Participate in resident care plan conferences and contribute to the development of care plans.
  • Report any concerns or complaints made by residents or their families to the Administrator.
  • Make rounds to ensure residents are safe and comfortable.
  • Maintain a calm and positive environment throughout the department.
  • Participate in in-service education programs and stay up-to-date on the latest nursing practices.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of an effective orientation program for new staff members.
  • Recommends equipment and supply needs to the Director of Nursing.
  • Inventory and store residents' personal possessions.
  • Assist residents with packing personal possessions when they are transferred to a new room or discharged.
  • Participate in and receive the nursing report upon reporting for duty.
  • Maintain intake and output records as instructed.
  • Check and report bowel movements and character of stools.
  • Make occupied and unoccupied beds, change bed linens, and straighten rooms, closet, and drawers.
  • Notify housekeeping if a mattress needs cleaning or replacement.
  • Answer call lights promptly and run errands as requested.
  • Obtain blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, heights, and weights as needed.
  • Check skin condition when dressing, undressing, turning/repositioning, etc., and report any skin abnormalities to the Staff Nurse.
  • Observe residents' physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc., and report any changes or unusual findings to the Nurse/RCC.
  • Perform personal services for residents, such as reading, writing letters, etc., as time allows.
  • Encourage residents to help themselves and promote self-care in aiding rehabilitation.
  • Assist with care of dying and expired residents.
  • Record resident food/fluid intake and complete meal monitor form as indicated.
  • Report changes in residents' eating habits to the Staff Nurse.
  • Keep residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift unless contraindicated.
  • Serve between meals and bedtime snacks.
  • Wear a transfer belt at all times and utilize as needed.
  • Keep the nurses' call system within easy reach of the resident.
  • Report all hazardous equipment and conditions to the Staff Nurse immediately.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility's Quality Assurance program for the Nursing Department.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
