Patient Care Responsibilities

As a Pacu Technician at Advocate Health, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care. Your primary responsibilities will include performing advanced patient care tasks as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN), which may include intravenous (IV) line insertion and removal, phlebotomy, and placing patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors. You will also be responsible for measuring and documenting blood pressures, temperatures, pulse rates, and heights/weights, as well as communicating observations, concerns, and needs of the patient to the RN. Additionally, you will collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens as requested, maintain and order stock for the nursing area, and clean equipment and work areas. You will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment, following department safety policies and standard precautions. Furthermore, you will perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while continuously utilizing proper technique and assistive devices. You will also prepare patient rooms for admission/discharge and assist with the patient admission/discharge process.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices.

Education Required
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant.

Experience Required
  • No experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
  • Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Must have functional vision and hearing.
  • Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids on a continuous basis; therefore, protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
