Petco is a leading health and wellness company focused on improving the lives of pets, pet parents, and our partners. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinarian - Hospital Care Specialist to join our team at one of our state-of-the-art veterinary hospitals.

As a Veterinarian - Hospital Care Specialist, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. You will also be expected to utilize a problem-based approach, develop treatment plans, and communicate effectively with clients and referral hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality patient care, including physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and treatment
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication and surgical procedures
  • Communicate effectively with clients, referral hospitals, and other healthcare professionals
  • Participate in rounds, disseminate knowledge, and perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License, if applicable
  • USDA Category I (minimum) Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as compassion and sympathy

Work Environment:

The majority of job duties are conducted in the veterinary hospital. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary), and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
