Job Description

About the Role

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a skilled Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. This full-time position is responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient financial processing within our Business Office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze financial data to prepare reports for management, providing recommendations and explanations of trends and outliers
  • Monitor short- and long-range program expenditure goals and actions, offering budgetary assistance and advice on application guidelines
  • Prepare, review, and present various reports related to funds status, workload, and expenditures
  • Determine payment methods for authorized and unauthorized ambulance claims
  • Process invoices through an electronic system, ensuring timely and accurate payment
  • Review pending items and ensure follow-up action is taken, resolving complex issues within budget spreadsheets
  • Certify invoices that have been received after validating goods or services
  • Provide administrative support and prepare written correspondence regarding benefits
Requirements
  • A U.S. citizen with a strong analytical mind and excellent communication skills
  • A minimum of one year of experience in financial clerical work, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with electronic systems and software used for financial processing and reporting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, with some college coursework in business administration or a related field preferred
