Division Overview

Crown's Food Division is the world's leading manufacturer of food cans. Our comprehensive range of food packaging serves various markets, including fruit, vegetables, dairy, fish, meat, ready meals, pet food, infant milk powder, and other dry food products. We offer a wide selection of food cans, from round to bowl-shaped cans, designed to meet the diverse needs of our customers.

Location

Plant 37 is located in Hanover, PA. The plant manufactures 2-piece and 3-piece steel cans for the food industry, operating both continuous and conventional shifts. With approximately 95 employees at the Hanover location, we offer a collaborative and dynamic work environment.

The plant is situated on Route 194 in York County, close to Gettysburg, PA, York, PA, and the Maryland border.

Job Description

The Forklift Equipment Operator plays a critical role in supporting operations and shipping/receiving activities based on business needs. This position reports directly to the Manufacturing Supervisor and is responsible for:

  • Ensuring safe operating practices;
  • Completing annual forklift operator training provided by the company;
  • Performing routine pre- and post-inspections on forklift equipment to ensure optimal performance;
  • Moving controls, levers, and devices to drive industrial forklifts and transport materials between loading, unloading, processing, and storage areas;
  • Performing quality checks, visual or otherwise, as required on incoming material, trailers, and outgoing finished goods;
  • Organizing and securing materials where loads of materials and pallets are stored;
  • Able to read and understand pallet tickets and date codes and production schedules;
  • Manually loading or unloading materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms, or lifting devices;
  • Placing pallet tags on product as needed;
  • Wrapping loads as needed;
  • Picking orders and/or unloading trailers to meet shipping and receiving schedules;
  • Operating a computer to navigate inventory systems;
  • Completing documentation, records, and reports as required;
  • Attending shift meetings and participating as needed;
  • Collaborating with other operators to ensure smooth transitions between shifts;
  • Performing other job-related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 1+ years of forklift driver experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment;
  • To be qualified in terms of visual, auditory, physical, and mental ability to operate the equipment safely;
  • To be able to work alternate shift schedules, including mandatory overtime based on business needs;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with other team members and external contacts;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to establish and maintain a high level of organization and quality.
Preferred Requirements

We prefer candidates with:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of all OSHA-related training in a manufacturing environment;
  • 6S Training;
  • Familiarization with quality standards and line processes.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, you will regularly be required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

You must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

You will be able to sit and/or stand for the entirety of the shift.

Working Conditions

This role typically works in a plant environment, with some responsibilities performed in an office setting.

You will be exposed to light lifting, warehouse forklift traffic, and occasional loud noises.
