Senior Thermal-Fluids Modeling Scientist

At the State of Virginia, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Thermal-Fluids Modeling Scientist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher with expertise in thermal-fluids sciences and multi-physics modeling.
Job SummaryThis position involves creating new models to expand the physics in the open-source pore network model Open-PNM to predict reacting flows and their associated physics. The ideal candidate will have experience in CFD, reacting flows, combustion, multi-mode heat transfer, including radiation, and strong programming skills in Python.
Required QualificationsTo be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related field within the last four years.
- Experience in CFD, reacting flows, combustion, and multi-mode heat transfer, including radiation.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Independent problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills.
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Understanding of fire dynamics and material decomposition kinetics.
- Experience with Fire Dynamics Simulator software and machine learning model development.
- Familiarity with conducting experiments and using data to generate kinetic parameters.
The estimated salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
