Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Specialist IV to join our team at the City of Charlottesville, VA. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that requires a high level of competency and comprehensive knowledge in the repair, maintenance, installation, and safety precautions in the areas of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complicated skilled work and possess a high level of competency and comprehensive knowledge in the repair, maintenance, installation, and safety precautions in the areas of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
  • Primarily work is performed independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Positions in this class are responsible for the maintenance, construction, or horticultural duties in city parks, downtown mall, schools, right-of-ways, and public recreational facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Supervise staff consisting of other Maintenance Specialists, seasonal staff, and volunteers.
  • Requires highly specialized skills or certifications.
  • Reports to a Management Specialist I or II or Deputy Director.
Requirements
  • Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in a lead/supervisory position.
  • May require a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment.
  • Possession of a valid, appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must be eligible to operate a City vehicle.

  • Five (5) years preferred
