Job Summary:

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Durham County Department of Public Health as a Senior Public Health Nurse. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and education to pregnant clients in our Maternal Health Clinic. You will work closely with our medical providers to administer medication and vaccines, monitor patients' vital signs, and provide education on prenatal care. You will also participate in charge nurse duties, including managing clinic flow, redirecting staff, and assessing charts for needed labs and procedures. Responsibilities:

• Provide obstetrical/maternal health services, including education and counseling to pregnant clients
• Monitor patients' vital signs, weight, and urine results
• Administer medication and vaccines as ordered by medical provider
• Participate in charge nurse duties, including managing clinic flow, redirecting staff, and assessing charts for needed labs and procedures
• Assist medical providers in performing physical exams and procedures
• Participate in COVID and emergency response activities

Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
• One year of professional nursing experience
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
• Ability to work independently and make sound nursing judgments in a variety of complex health situations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in partnership with patients and other service providers to elicit needed information and maintain effective working relationships
