About the Position

The City of Dana Point's Facilities Division is seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker I to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of the City's facilities and buildings.

Job Summary

This is an entry-level position in the Maintenance Worker series, requiring the ability to learn City infrastructure, systems, and facilities, as well as the use of tools and equipment. The successful candidate will perform a range of tasks, including maintenance, repair, and construction, in both shop and field environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in both shop and field environments.
  • Remove and install signs; remove non-hazardous spills and debris; service trash bins, pressure wash sidewalks.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing, and equipment repair or replacement.
  • Perform regular park inspections for preventative maintenance.
  • Provide assistance with set-up and removal of equipment and facilities at special events.
  • Maintain and repair tools and equipment used in parks and facilities maintenance.
  • Lift, carry, and wheel heavy materials and/or objects.
  • Perform and observe safe work methods, policies, and procedures and make appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Use proper protective equipment in the course of the job, including steel-toed boots, eye protection, hearing protection, and gloves.
  • Drive City vehicles between various work sites; maintain vehicles, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition and ensure equipment is secure at the close of the workday.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to create and update work orders and analyze maintenance data effectively.
  • Read, understand, and interpret written instructions, plans, blueprints, specifications, and schematics.
  • Respond to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis, working outside normal working hours if necessary.
Requirements
  • Education equivalent to GED and/or specialized vocational training program courses in maintenance fundamentals and/or other related maintenance course work.
  • Six months of increasingly responsible experience related to maintenance and repair is desirable.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
