Job Description Summary

This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the payroll function, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant execution of payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide hands-on leadership and management of payroll operations, including Workday payroll systems administration.
  2. Offer payroll subject matter expertise and Workday payroll systems expertise, troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
  3. Manage and execute day-to-day operations of on-cycle and on-demand payroll, including payroll checklist execution, garnishment processing, data entry, data loading, NOC/ACH rejects, tax validations, terminations, retro processing, standard review and corrections, and settlements.
  4. Develop and execute analytical activities, including payroll audits, data quality checks, integration balancing, W-4 Audits, tax oversight, monthly/quarterly reconciliations, benefits processing, monitoring payroll sync, information and reporting requests, suspense account management, year-end support, etc.
  5. Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel, managing personnel in conjunction with Human Resources.
  6. Train other members of the payroll and finance teams on payroll administration, processes, systems, and policies.
  7. Manage and oversee payroll and employment tax management, including state and local tax monitoring, corrections, follow-up, and resolution for outstanding items.
  8. Manage year-end planning activities for all payroll functions, developing processes and standards, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks, and providing status reports.
  9. Provide Workday payroll systems oversight, overseeing Workday release implementations, including change testing and requirements review, change management, assessments, and recommendations to management.
  10. Manage earnings and deductions changes, creating and testing new codes, collaborating with other teams on relevant testing activities.
  11. Develop and maintain SOPs for all payroll processes and procedures.
  12. Provide direct and quality support to employees, leaders, and other stakeholders, providing enterprise communications about wider payroll-related activities as needed.
  13. Identify areas for automation and process improvements to reduce manual work and risk.
  14. Engage with external contacts/vendors for support, ensuring service levels are necessary and achieved.
  15. Perform all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations, bringing compliance issues to the attention of management.
Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  2. Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience with payroll processing required, including experience with multi-state payrolls and payroll for organizations with 500 or more employees.
  3. Functional payroll expertise, including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and processing of payroll taxes required.
  4. Experience and demonstrated expertise with payroll systems and intermediate proficiency and solid experience with Microsoft Excel required.
  5. Prior experience with Workday required.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Payroll process setup and testing experience.
  2. Previous supervisory experience.
  3. Experience in working autonomously, showing time management proficiency to meet necessary timelines.
  4. Experience working with an outsourced payroll provider.
  5. Experience and familiarity with time-keeping systems.
  6. Workday payroll module certification.
Skills and Abilities
  1. Must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to enterprise-wide payroll matters.
  2. Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned responsibilities.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  4. Effective oral and written business communication skills.
  5. Able to organize, prioritize, and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Must be proficient with payroll software.
  8. Ability to work in a team environment, and have a collaborative, customer-focused style.
  9. Ability to maintain a collaborative, effective working relationship with human resources.
  10. Proficiency with MS Office applications, specifically Excel.
Physical and Travel Requirements
  1. Hybrid remote/office work environment.
  2. Travel: < 5%.
  3. 5+ hours per shift: Sitting, finger dexterity, reaching waist to shoulder.
  4. Up to 3 hours per shift: Standing, walking, bend, squat, kneel, handling, driving, reaching above shoulders, reaching knee to waist, reaching floor to knee, grasping items, push/pull items up to 10 pounds.
