About the Role

This is a highly sought-after position that presents an opportunity to leverage your expertise in commercial law, sales, and partnerships to drive business growth at PayPal. As a Senior Director of Commercial Legal, you will lead a team responsible for providing legal representation and oversight to the global sales and online agreements teams.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with deep expertise in commercial law, sales, and partnerships, as well as a proven track record of managing complex deals and leading cross-functional teams. You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Team Leadership: Manage a team of experienced lawyers who provide legal support to the global sales and online agreements teams, ensuring seamless execution of deals and agreements.
  2. Negotiation and Deal Management: Negotiate key strategic merchant and partner deals, collaborating with the Global Markets Sales organization to ensure successful outcomes.
  3. Escalation Management: Manage escalations, collaborate across teams, and develop solutions to enable team and business partners to close deals efficiently.
  4. Relationship Building: Develop strong working relationships with business counterparts across the enterprise to drive effective legal services delivery.
  5. Process Improvement: Work with the Commercial Legal team and others to identify opportunities for process improvements, contracting efficiency, and consistency.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar in current good standing.
  • MBA or LLM is a plus.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in-house or at a major law firm.
  • Proven experience negotiating and advising senior leaders on complex commercial deals, including in the financial services sector.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in payments industry and commercial sales transactions.
  • Excellent drafting, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt legal requirements in balanced, creative, and pragmatic ways.
  • High comfort level with a wide range of legal issues and subject matters.
  • Skilled, effective, and empathetic manager who can empower team members.
  • A confirmed ability to effectively influence, lead, collaborate with, and encourage others at all levels.
  • Experience building and leading teams with an inclusive and collaborative culture.
  • High personal standards of excellence and ethics, as well as the ability to act with discretion.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, juggle multiple projects with competing priorities.
Compensation and Benefits

PayPal offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including a U.S. national annual pay range of $143,400 to $285,450, based on various factors, including location and relevant skills and experience.

The company provides a balanced hybrid work model, allowing employees to work from home two days a week and spend three days in the office for effective collaboration and teamwork.
