Para Specialist for Diverse Student Support Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Para Specialist to join our team at Wichita Public Schools. This is a part-time day job position at Enders STEM and Leadership Magnet Elementary School, located at 3030 S. Osage, Wichita, KS 67217.

About the Role

The Para Specialist will work under the supervision of a certified teacher and will be responsible for providing support to students with diverse needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the importance of creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in the education of students, including instructional assistance, organization, record keeping, and management of student behavior, classroom safety, and communication with students, support staff, and parents.
  • Supervise students in the class setting as directed by the teacher or other staff.
  • Assist in managing classroom routines and procedures.
  • Assist in the implementation of student behavior plans.
  • Assist students to and from assigned areas within the building to facilitate integration efforts.
  • Assist the teacher in the physical setup of the classroom for group instruction, projects, and activities.
  • Assist in the integration of technology into the classroom.
  • Use a slate and/or stylus or have a willingness to learn these skills.
  • Assist students in using low vision equipment.
  • Assist students with adaptive magnifying equipment.
  • Additional Duties
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Paras working in a Title School must have a minimum of 48 accredited college credits verifiable with a transcript or pass a state-approved assessment.
  • Must pass the Physical Capacity Test (PCP).
  • Requires in-service, training, or coursework in first aid, symptoms of child abuse, and/or symptoms and signs of illness.
  • Requires knowledge and literacy of various sign language modalities, Braille, NCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention), and/or other special skills.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $15.00 - $20.00 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits include paid time off, health insurance, and retirement plans.
